The Blog

To help provide focus for those currently in, or desiring, a leadership role, here is a smattering of concepts which may provide a helpful perspective shift.

Above all else: leadership should be rewarding.

A leader ensures that their direct reports:

  • Are capable of performing the required skills of their role
  • Develop progressive skills
  • Exhibits and develops professional behavior
  • Understands the mission and purpose of the business
  • Are aware of how performance and behavior affect business results and professional progression

Leadership requires:

  • a focus on enabling the team to deliver value
  • taking responsibility for the results of the team
  • development of the individuals on the team
  • an ego that is satisfied by the value that the team delivers, not that the leader delivers

Leadership Pronoun Usage:

Success = 3rd Person - Us/We/Our

Failure = 1st Person - I/Me/Mine

Leadership Prioritization of Needs:

  • Needs of the customer – they’re paying the bills
  • Needs of the business – they’re paying you and your team
  • Needs of the business partners – they’re supporting you/and you them
  • Needs of the leadership structure – they’re providing direction & guidance
  • Needs of the team – they’re supporting you
  • Needs of the individuals on the team – they’re supporting the team

NOTE: The needs of the leader are addressed with the leader’s leadership.
